SMALL WAVES A new play written by Tanya Myers,
Directed by Tom Wright
Performed by Martha Myers Lowe and Tanya Myers
Designed by Steven Grainger and Dan Cowlard
Soundscore by Grant Bridgeman
The play has been inspired by living stories of refugee adults and children.
And is offered to an audience as a gift of hope.
It is 2005. Faith departs from 'Mappo' railway station, with a one way ticket
to oblivion, Everyday reality and social trappings left behind. She retires
to a magical house and cemetry buried in the depths of a Wintry terrain. However,
her retreat is disturbed by visits from an eccentric old lady and a curious
child. The old lady is struggling to remember a promise she made on her 11th
birthday, the child arrives with Little Hope (her doll) to discover that it
is here, in this magical garden, that she will celebrate her 11th birthday.
Together the three, deepen their understanding of death, each enabling the other
to continue forth into Childhood, Life and Death, respectively.
The play is performed by Mother and Daughter (Tanya and Martha) and a puppet.
It is a show for Adults and children.
We are looking to perform SMALL WAVES in other venues in Autumn 2005 and Spring
2006, ideally in conjunction with workshop and post show discussion.
Audience response from both adults and significantly from young people will
be gratefully received.
